Gravity Power: An Addition to Alternative
Source of Energy
for Fossil Fuels
October 28, 2008
Rajaram Bojji, a product of the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, has discovered a power, Gravity Power which he says would potentially save the world 70 percent of fossil fuels required for the purpose every year. Rajaram, says that it is "an evolutionary initiative that can possibly free the world of its dependence on fossil fuels, underlying much of the volatile price rise".Rajaram, former managing director, Konkan Railway, said his technology, unlike other sources of renewable or alternative energy like sunlight or biofuels, would not require heavy investment or land and can work with existing infrastructure even in developing countries.Interested to know more on Gravity Power

Power Tree Corp Announces Filing of Utility Patent for Electrical Energy Storage Technology

BOCA RATON, Fla.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Power Tree Corp today announced another major step towards important advancements in electrical energy storage with the filing of a utility patent for its grid scale flywheel based electrical energy storage technology.
“We are proud to be working with Power Tree Corp on this important clean energy technology.”
Power Tree’s proprietary technology represents a breakthrough in the science of energy storage. The company’s technology is unique in that the design allows for flywheels of great mass that can tolerate the extreme forces generated by high velocity rotation, while efficiently and cost-effectively storing and converting kinetic energy into stable, on-frequency electricity. The result is a single device that is expected to deliver 1 mw continuously for several hours, or other combinations of discharge depending on the needs of the individual customer.
Power Tree's patent application was prepared and filed by the well-known patent law firm, Hamilton, Brook, Smith & Reynolds. Information about the firm can be found on its website, http://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hbsr.com&esheet=6015788&lan=en_US&anchor=www.hbsr.com&index=2, including information about a recent historical patent judgment on one of the patents it obtained for a client. Mr. David E. Brook, a founding partner of the firm, was quoted as saying, "We are proud to be working with Power Tree Corp on this important clean energy technology."

Construction begins on 30 GW electricity storage flywheel device
13 July 2009-- Power Tree Corp. said they have started building a 30 GW energy storage device designed to help implement the smart grid. The flywheel-based storage unit is expected to be ready for commercial use by the end of 2009. It is expected to store up to 30 GW of electricity and discharge continuous megawatt-size power for hours, including renewable energy power from wind and solar resources.Utilities can also place the devices throughout the generation and transmission system, helping to prevent brown and black outs during peak demand hours along the grid.

Ford To Replace
Spark Plugs With
Freakin’ Lasers by 2011
July 14, 2009

In a move that is sure to be a stepping stone to the flying car, Ford is currently testing a new type of laser ignition system to replace the conventional spark plug (invented way back in the 19th century).
The new laser ignition system is reportedly more reliable – especially in cold weather – and aims to reduce fuel consumption and tailpipe exhaust emissions, particularly CO2.
Laser beams however, can be focused and split into multiple beams to give multiple ignition points, which means it can give a far better chance of ignition, and far better fuel efficiency.
To produce 3000 RPM, the laser will need to fire more than 50 times per seconds, but should still require less power than a conventional spark plug.

Australian scientists predict that a revolutionary new way to harness the power of the sun to extract clean and almost unlimited energy supplies from water will be a reality within seven years.
Using special titanium oxide ceramics that harvest sunlight and split water to produce hydrogen fuel, the researchers say it will then be a simple engineering exercise to make an energy-harvesting device with no moving parts and emitting no greenhouse gases or pollutants.
It would be the cheapest, cleanest and most abundant energy source ever developed: the main by-products would be oxygen and water. '
'This is potentially huge, with a market the size of all the existing markets for coal, oil and gas combined,'' says Professor Janusz Nowotny, who with Professor Chris Sorrell is leading a solar hydrogen research project at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Centre for Materials and Energy Conversion. The team is thought to be the most advanced in developing the cheap, light-sensitive materials that will be the basis of the technology

This from the company that scoffs at the losses rivals chalked up by investing in wind farms and other alternative fuels.
But Exxon never technically opposed alternatives to petroleum. It simply opposes losing money on bad investments. And $600 million isn't a token investment, even for Exxon. Seems to me that's real money. Not greenwashing, impress Congress, marketing money, but serious, this-might-be-the-future-of-our-industry money.
Chief Executive Rex Tillerson has said to me and in public speeches that the alternative fuel industry needs a break-through technology to move people off of oil. That is, some technology that is cheap enough, big enough and convenient enough to fundamentally change the way we use energy.
Perhaps Tillerson has found his break-through in one of the least likely places: Pond scum.

"We now believe the technology is stable enough to be used for science. It is no longer just an engineering prototype," Fratantoni said. The thermal glider fulfills a major step toward a long-held dream of oceanographers: launching an armada self-propelled, long-lasting, relatively inexpensive robots to roam throughout the oceans. The vehicles could measure ocean conditions over timepsans and territory impossible to attain and afford using ships, and they would report regularly via satellite to scientists back on shore. The idea was conceived in the 1980s by Doug Webb, a former WHOI research specialist who founded the Webb Research Corporation, which built the thermal glider. Webb collaborated extensively with renowned WHOI physical oceanographer Henry Stommel, who in 1989 penned an article in the journal Oceanography about a fleet of Webb’s gliding sentinels bobbing through the ocean. Webb and Stommel named the vehicles “Slocum” gliders for Joshua Slocum, the first man to single-handedly sail around the world.

Green' Energy Powers Undersea GliderThermal glider uses heat from the ocean to fly through the deep blue.Researchers have successfully flown the first thermal glider through the ocean—a robotic vehicle that can propel itself for several months across thousands of miles, using only heat energy from the ocean. In April 2008, a research team led by Dave Fratantoni of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and Roy Watlington of the University of the Virgin Islands retrieved a prototype thermal glider that they had launched in December 2007 off the coast of St. Thomas in the Caribbean Sea. The vehicle crisscrossed a deep ocean basin between St. Thomas and St Croix more than 75 times, traveling uninterruptedly for more than 1,600 nautical miles (3,000 kilometers).

Bumpy Whale Fins
Outperform
Smooth Turbines
Whale and dolphin fins, flippers and tails are bumpy, which produce disturbed wakes that increase lift and decrease drag. Engineers are taking note. Cynthia Graber reports.
Whales and dolphins were molded by evolution to glide through water. We’ve been trying to create streamlined designs ourselves for structures such as wind turbine blades.
Now researchers are examining the flippers, fins and tails of our water-dwelling cousins to learn how to improve engineering designs. Dr. Frank Fish—yes, that’s really his name—from West Chester University in Pennsylvania presented this research July 8 at the Society for Experimental Biology’s annual meeting in Marseille.
Here’s one example of the way Dr. Fish’s research is being applied. Whale flippers have a bumpy edge. This makes little sense to engineers. They’ve designed structures like wings and blades that ensure a steady air flow. But it turns out the unsteady flow over this more complex shape increased lift and reduces drag much better than any previous manmade design. It has to do with something called vortices. These are small tornado-shaped water f

Wastewater Analysis for Drug Abuse Evidence
A study in the journal Addiction shows that a viable system for measuring the consumption of illegal drugs in various communities is to analyze samples of untreated wastewater--which contains the leftovers. Steve Mirsky reports

Ninety-six municipal water treatment facilities across Oregon volunteered for the study, which concentrated on finding evidence of the drugs meth, cocaine and ecstasy. All samples were collected on the same day, in areas that include about two-thirds of that state’s population.
Some findings: evidence for cocaine use was primarily in urban areas, almost nonexistent in rural regions; ecstasy use tended toward urban areas as well, and only turned up in about half of all communities; meth was everywhere. More important than those one-day snapshot findings, however, is that this methodology was proven viable, and could be used to track patterns of drug use in multiple regions over time.

General Fusion, the Canadian duo who hope to produce a cold fusion power plant for perhaps a tenth the cost of other such promised projects, just got a $12 million shot in the arm.
According to the Toronto Star, the four-year grant comes from a non-profit called Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC). However, SDTC will only provide the grant if General Fusion can match it with $28.7 million in private investment. Considering General Fusion only raised $6 million in its last round of funding, that sounds pretty steep.

The Antares DLR-H2 has just completed its first test flight, making it the world's first zero-emissions aircraft to successfully fly on hydrogen fuel cell power alone.
And because hydrogen fuel cells only react with oxygen in ambient air, the lone byproduct is water, which has no ill effect on the environment.
When flying in a straight line, the Antares is capable of running at about 52% efficiency, drawing 10kW of power in the process (it's capable of delivering up to 25kW). It can go for roughly 450 miles, flying at speeds of 105 mph.

Solar plane's 3 day flight
A UK-built solar-powered plane has set an unofficial world endurance record for a flight by an unmanned aircraft.
The Zephyr-6, as it is known, stayed aloft for more than three days, running through the night on batteries it had recharged in sunlight. The 30kg Zephyr was guided by remote control to an operating altitude in excess of 18km (60,000ft), and then flown on autopilot and via satellite communication.
It tested a communications payload weighing approximately 2kg. Zephyr has demonstrated that it can cope with extremes of temperature - from the blistering 45C heat found at ground level in Arizona's Sonoran Desert, to the minus 70C chill experienced at altitudes of more than 18km (60,000ft).This would see the biggest plane in history take to the sky, powered by the sun and capable of carrying a 450-kilo (1,000lb) payload.

George Soukup Nachbauer claims to have come up with a working all-magnet motor (Magnetmotorenbauer) of the "V-gate" variety, for which he has filed for a patent, after which he will make it accessible. He presents what he calls the V-Track Rotary Magnet Motor. It appears to embody the V-track magnet acceleration model into rotating motion.

"[The motor] accelerated up to destruction, therefore the rotor must be built better. But the size which it is did not create a problem. Only if I did the same with larger magnets would it becomes a problem. But this is accessible at the moment only for the German patent office. During disclosure it will become visible for everyone. I plan also its own web page. I have German investors already." -- Soukup (Response to Sterling D. Allan; June 15, 2009; slightly edited)
Once engineered for production, the promise of an all-magnet motor is that it would present a clean, reliable, portable, and hopefully affordable energy source that could make electric motors and fuel-powered generators obsolete.

Will Big Oil Be the Next Detroit?April 10, 2009 – 23:46

Big Oil has abandoned alternative-energy despite President Obama’s eager embrace of clean energy and carbon-emissions regulations, according to the New York Times.
Economically, Big Oil appears to have more compelling logic on its side. “The scale of their alternative investments is so mind-numbingly small that it’s hard to find them,” Nathanael Greene, a senior policy analyst at the Natural Resources Defense Council, told the New York Times. “These companies don’t feel they have to be on the leading edge of this stuff.”
While it may surprise those reporters who serve up press releases with little or any additional exploration of the bigger factual picture, Big Oil has never had more than a token interest in alternative energy.
For all its faults, Exxon-Mobil has been more honest about its stance on alternative energy. Less so can be said for Royal-Dutch Shell and “Beyond Petroleum.” These companies have aggressively promoted minute investments in renewable energies like solar energy and biofuels in the media while quietly funneling far more significant amounts of capital into conventional carbon-intensive fossil-fuel projects. Heard of Sakhalin, an island off the coast of eastern Siberia in the North Pacific – a part of the Sakhalin Oblast?

Clean energy: America can meet the challenge
Trip Van Noppen
Sunday, June 7, 2009
America's addiction to oil and other fossil fuels has put our economy, our security and our future at risk. But while President Obama, Congress, energy experts, business leaders and citizens across the country are rolling up their sleeves to create a clean-energy future, oil executives stubbornly insist that rapid change is impossible or too expensive.
Chevron CEO David O'Reilly says moving away too quickly from oil is "a straight path back to a pre-industrial economy and a standard of living to match." Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson says the transition is 100 years away and that tougher rules to reduce carbon emissions will hurt consumers.

I FIND THE partnerhip with Discover Magazine begs $ questions, the state of the arts TECHNOLOGY INTERACTIVE SCREEN INVITING and the interaction behind the screen scenes "data gathering must be to die for"...
Other than that, it is the same old Fossil Fuel Mission to shapeshift or portend any direction and accomadation that will minimize, mitigate, distract, divert, any real Energy Awareness Direction away from a controled means of Energy Generation for Profit at any expense.
